The One Trick that Takes Your Postcards to the Next Level

It’s called variable data printing, and it’s awesome! Some postcard companies call it digital printing or custom postcards — at PostcardMania we call them personalized postcards.
Today I’m going to explain what they are and how they work.
But first:
Let me back up a bit.
So there are two kinds of postcards: static and variable.
Static postcards are what you picture when you think about postcards — this is when you mail the exact same design to everyone on your mailing list. So, all of your prospects would get a card like this:

With variable postcards, you can actually change the design based on your recipient. The easiest example of that would be a postcard that’s personalized with the recipient’s name — so all of your prospects get a postcard that looks the same, but they’re customized with the name of the person receiving it.
The technology required to produce these postcards isn’t exactly new, but until recently it was so expensive that few companies could afford to use it.
Here’s how it works:
Essentially, variable data printing is a computer program that takes data from your mailing list and changes your postcards to reflect that information.
So now, instead of everyone getting the exact same card, they’ll get something that looks like this:

Here’s what else is cool:
You can get even MORE specific, and have the program use different colors and images that reflect your recipient’s gender and interests, like this:

You can even test out different offers based on your prospect’s neighborhood and demographics!
And here’s the best part:
It’s super easy. All you have to do is choose your options for each variable and it automatically gets plugged in depending on your list. No extra effort required!
