Google AdWords Targeting Options (Part 1): Choosing an Ad Type
Updated on July 15, 2021You may have heard me talk before about what a great marketing tool Pay Per Click advertising is. An important thing to remember is it’s only as effective as the person who is running it. If you are not targeting the right prospects, or not targeting narrow enough demographics, your results are going to be mediocre at best. I decided to put together this series to tell you about the fantastic Google AdWords targeting options you can use to put your ads in front of quality prospects.
This first post is going to tell you about the different ad types available to the Pay Per Click user. You basically have three choices…
1.) Search Ads
These are the ads you see at the top and to the right of your Google search results. You target specific keywords, so when a prospect types those keywords into Google they are shown your ad. It’s a great way of prominently featuring your ads to prospects who are already looking for what you offer.

2.) Image Ads
These ads are images (shocker, I know) you can present to prospects on millions of websites within the Google Display Network. You’ve probably seen these ads in your own web browsing. They appear on the top and the sides of webpages. They are a great opportunity to display your ads on websites that quality prospects are visiting.

3.) YouTube Ads
YouTube is an incredibly popular website. That means it offers businesses a great opportunity to get exposure to a lot of prospects in a very engaging venue. You can feature ads in relevant videos to build brand awareness and generate leads.
